Music students from the choir, jazz band and symphonic band from Alameda High School attended [...]]]> In March, the Jazz Band attended an adjudication at the Jazz Festival at Chabot College in Hayward.  They received scores of superior, superior and excellent.  Outstanding Musicianship were awarded to Daniel Arnstein, Guitar; Chris Maier, Piano and Ron Desmond, trombone.

Music students from the choir, jazz band and symphonic band from Alameda High School attended the New York Heritage Festival during spring break.  Money to attend the trip was raised by coffee sales, bake sales, candy sales, “flocking,” practice-a-thons, and the Music Patrons annual fundraiser.  At the festival, the choir earned a silver rating; the jazz band earned a silver rating; and the symphonic band earned a silver rating with the invitation to attend next year’s Heritage Festival of Gold in New York, Chicago or San Francisco.  Special recognition from the jazz band went to Jordan Butler for guitar and Brandon Ramos for tenor saxophone.  The students enjoyed four full days of touring, sight seeing, shopping, visiting museums, attending the musical “Memphis” and the symphony.  The students had a wonderful time bonding and exploring the Big Apple.

On April 13, the Alameda High School Jazz Band as well as the Encinal High School Jazz Band performed at the AEF’s Salute to Education event at Rockwall Winery.

On April 21, the Choir will have their adjudication at Acalanes High School in Lafayette.

On May 5, the Symphonic Band will have their adjudication at Irvington High School in Fremont.

Join us on May 31 and enjoy the Alameda High School Music Department’s Spring concert.

As the New Year quickly approaches, we are planning our biggest fundraiser of the year to be held on Saturday, February 4:  New York, New York – a festive night of food, raffles and entertainment provided by our talented music students.  Currently we are soliciting donations for raffle items.  If you or someone you know would like to donate a prize or service for our raffle, please contact us.  For your convenience a donation form is attached which can be distributed to potential donors.
We greatly appreciate your support and encourage you to participate in this important fundraiser.  MPAHS will have a supplemental meeting to plan this special event on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7pm in the music room.  We welcome all who would like to help.  If you cannot attend our MPAHS meeting, we hope you will save the date and join us February 4, 2012 at the Harbor Bay Club.  Please contact us with any questions or to make arrangements to pick up your donation.

When:    Second Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.

We’re getting ready to kick off the year for the AHS music patrons!   MPAHS supports many aspects of our Music Department at AHS.
Our first meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 13 @ 7pm in the music room.  All music parents are encouraged to attend so they can be part of the behind the scenes action that is critical to our music department’s success.  We’ll be choosing officers, discussing the concert calendar, Heritage Festival trip, our annual fundraiser / talent show, and other events.
